This key transport project will promote Nghe An’s socio-economic development and strengthen Vietnam’s connection with Laos.
THE HANOI TIMES — The Nghe An Provincial Party Committee has approved the investment policy for the Vinh–Thanh Thuy highway project with total expense of nearly VND24 trillion (US$915 million).

With a total length of 60 kilometers, the expressway stretches through nine communes of Nghe An Province, including Hung Nguyen, Kim Lien, Dai Hue, Van An, Nam Dan, Xuan Lam, Hoa Quan, Son Lam, and Kim Bang.
The national expressway connects with the North–South Expressway at the Hung Tay interchange in Hung Nguyen Commune.
It links the country’s backbone expressway route to the access road leading to Thanh Thuy Commune’s Border Gate Economic Zone, the gateway connecting Vietnam and Laos.
The project is scheduled for 2025–2030, with preparation and land clearance starting in 2025 and operation set for 2029. Land compensation, support, and resettlement will be separated into sub-projects to be implemented by commune- and ward-level authorities.
Designed with six lanes, the expressway allows vehicles to travel at maximum speed of 100 km/h. It will shorten travel from the border gate to urban areas and seaports in Nghe An, while facilitating goods transport, reduce logistics costs, and attract investment. In particular, it will support the growth of industrial parks, economic zones, and supporting industries.
The project will also make better use of land resources and promote tourism, industry, and mineral exploitation, creating widespread momentum for socio-economic growth while ensuring national defense and security.
